Artboard: An Illustrator App for the Rest of Us

Artboard is a lightweight graphic design app for the Mac that makes the process of creating beautiful, high quality illustrations quick and easy. With a library of thousands of royalty free styles, shapes and clip art Artboard has endless applications in any type of project whether its personal or professional.

Price: 19.99
Manufacturer: Mapdiva

There is huge demand for apps like Artboard that take the most useful features of expensive, bloated applications (I’m looking at you Illustrator) and make them available at a low price. Everybody has graphic design needs but few people have the time, patience or money for high end applications. Just as Pixelmator bundled all the best features of Photoshop into a lightweight easy to use app, Artboard has done the same for Illustrator.

After playing with Artboard for a while I came to the realization that there was virtually no illustration need that I have that I couldn’t address using the app. I can’t wait to incorporate it into the next site that I design. Like any new app it took some experimentation to overcome the learning curve and come up to speed with Artboard. I highly recommend checking out the videos below as well as some of the other videos on Mapdiva’s Youtube channel.

If you like to dabble in illustration and graphic design and you need something that is easy to learn and inexpensive Artboard is the app for you!

Fantastic post. Software and applications that make difficult tasks easier will always be successful. It definitely dumbs graphic design down. In a slow economy, more people are taking the D.I.Y. approcah when it comes to web design.

We recently did a post on Artboard for Mac and love to hear any other thoughts- http://www.softwarecrew.com/2011/05/artboard-for-mac-brings-vector-graphics-to-the-masses/

Cheers!
