Most MacBook users would agree that that Magic Trackpad is the best thing since sliced bread. What puts the “magic” in the Magic Trackpad is the use of gestures. As the OS X evolves the number of gestures keeps getting better. The biggest caveat to that is the web browser which feels a bit underserved in the gesture department. This statement is especially true for users that favor Chrome or Firefox over Safari. Enter nexTab.
Price: $1.99
Developer: CHI Cheng
nexTab is an app that adds some very handy Magic Trackpad gestures for managing browser tabs. nexTab is a priceless gem of an app for heavy duty web users (and lets face it, who isn’t?). Some of the gestures included are:
- swipe to switch tabs
- move to the tab to the left/right
- open new tab
- close tab
nexTab supports Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Opera. But wait, there’s more! In addition to web browser support nexTab supports most any OS X app that has a tabbed interface. This includes Xcode, Textmate, Filezilla and even Photoshop! File this under the why isn’t this already part of OS X? category.

Welcome to the first installment of Friday Free Apps Roundup! This recurring post is inspired by my previous 20 Best Free Apps article and the fact that there is a ton of great free apps in the app store. Its amazing how many app developers will either release their apps for free to get recognition or release free “lite” versions of an app that have 90% of the functionality of the full version. If you have know of some killer free apps drop a note in the comments below!
UberStrike HD
If MMO FPS games are your thing you should check out UberStrike. This game is seriously hard to walk away from. The gameplay is smooth with no lag at any point and the landscapes are stunning and creative and you can even explore underwater territory.
UberStrike was originally released as a purely browser based game so you don’t need the app to enjoy it but the graphics are better from the app and it seems to be overall more responsive. It is a bit difficult to get new weapons but for the price this game is fantastic!

The Tiny Bang Story Lite
This is a really relaxing point and click adventure game that takes place on Tiny Planet. When an asteroid hits the delicate Tiny Planet everything is shattered and scattered. Its up to you to reassemble the planet and restore harmony to the tiny people of the planet. The graphics are amazing and sound track put you in a very serene, calm state of mind. It reminds me very much of the classic PC adventure game MYST. Tiny Bang Story Lite offers one level of game play which is plenty to get you hooked!

Image Tricks Lite
As far as photo manipulation apps goes Image Tricks is one of the most feature rich options on the market today. In addition to a nice set of filters Image Tricks is packed with tons of fun style, distortion, illumination, overlap and tiling effects. In fact Image Tricks Lite offers more photo effects options than just about any other app on the market free or paid!

Moving Photos3D Free
Moving Photos 3D offers a completely new way to enjoy your photos through a visually stunning 3D animation rendering engine.. Point it to your iPhoto library or any folder that contains images and let it do its thing. The 3D rendering effects in Moving Photos 3D are stunning rendering cubes, photo walls and even three dimensional text using your photos as tiles.

MixTab
This is a great app for following your interests on the web no matter what those interests may be. Part RSS reader, part social sharing service, part data visualization app MixTab combines several powerful features that make for a very rich user experience for consuming content on the web. MixTab allows you to create new tabs based on your interests. You can import your RSS feeds or search for sources containing topics of interest. You can also import the most popular tabs that others have created. Its visually stunning, easy to use and allows you to share articles and tabs easily. MixTab has quickly become my favorite news reader for the Mac!
